Uplander is a hunting journal for upland bird hunters. It was built to respect your privacy: your hunting records stay on your device, and there are no accounts, no ads, and no trackers.
The short version: everything you log stays on your iPhone. We have no server, no login, and no way to see your data.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter, covering hunts, dates, species, counts, locations, gear, group and dog names, field notes, pack lists, and photos, is stored locally on your device.
Uplander has no user accounts and no backend server. We never receive, transmit, or store your hunting records.
Location
Location access is optional. It is used only when you choose to tag a hunt, drop a spot pin, centre the map on yourself, or get directions to a saved spot.
Coordinates you save are stored on your device with the rest of your data.
Uplander never tracks your location in the background and never shares it.
You can decline the permission and still use the app; only the location-based conveniences are unavailable.
Photos
If you attach photos to a hunt or field note, or import a spot from a photo, the app reads that image (and, for spot import, the location saved inside it by your camera) directly on your device.
Photos are stored with your entries on your device and are not uploaded anywhere.
Weather and maps
To show conditions and sunrise/sunset for a saved spot, the app sends that spot's coordinates to the Open-Meteo weather service to request a forecast. No personal information or identifier is sent with it.
Maps are provided by Apple Maps. Opening directions hands the destination to Apple's Maps app.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data; we never receive it in the first place.
We do not include advertising or ad trackers.
We do not collect your location in the background.
We do not require an account, email address, or sign-in.
Analytics
We do not run our own analytics or third-party tracking. If you have opted in to sharing with developers in your iOS settings, Apple may provide us with aggregate, anonymous crash and usage statistics through App Store Connect. This is not tied to your identity and we cannot use it to identify you.
Deleting your data
You can delete any hunt, spot, note, photo, or list inside the app at any time. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device. Because we hold no copy on a server, there is nothing for us to delete on our end.
Children
Uplander is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and revise the date above.
